Sometimes, revisions really are better, as reflected in this screen capture from my music/art video project “Oh What a Concept.” The original clip featured a hand-drawn graphic set against a limestone bluff, and the overall impression didn’t seem bad with the sun shining through the graphic like a stained-glass window. Yet after reviewing a mix of the video yesterday, the sequence also seemed a bit jarring when taken within the whole of the video’s flow. As well, as the video reflects something of a storyline featuring an elusive female forest spirit (or, clips of the ever-intrepid Mary Beth), the character didn’t seem to have enough prominence. So, returning to my video-clip database, I grabbed one of Beth taken at Waterside Park in downtown Rockwood, Ont., and after laying it over the previous two layers of video and dialing down the opacity of the graphic, the overall composition immediately looked right as an image of a spirit standing within a mountain glade as the sun crests the frame like the warmth and embrace of a good idea.
Have a great Friday, everyone, and I hope your own ideas embrace you warmly.
